Babe, call me back
Babe, call me back, 2016 - 2022
Do you remember the sound of dialing up to the internet?
The sound of a love message that never got a reply.
That left us remembering the sound of an era as an echo of itself.
That left us connecting with each other, only to be left forgotten.
‘Babe, call me back’ presents an interactive artificial intelligence created by Nayab Ikram in collaboration with the developer Benji.
The language of the artificial intelligence is based on the dial-up sound to the internet. Through interaction with the modem people can write messages, which are stored in the application and read out loud using the developed alphabet. The messages are then translated and played back in the form of the dial-up sound. The original dial-up sound has been translated through a web application that translates sound to texts in English. I see the translated message from the dial-up sound as a love message.
The sound of the translated love message says:
’you ought
aunt who are
he who
a
but’
You now have the chance to write with the computer, and reply to the love message it once sent to you.
